Education & STI's

STI's are important global health issues.  I believe education is one of the single more important factors that could have a dramatic effect on the global disparities of STI's.  Individual's sexual and health behaviors are influenced by their resources and beliefs, all which stem from what they have been taught.   With education individuals will learn about the importance of sexual health and how to access it.  Lack of knowledge directly affects the goals of disease control.  I know that education alone will not cure the problem, but it can help.
In the US education has helped control the spread of STI's as noted by the low number of sex partners, the majority of the population not engaging in high-risk behaviors, and more conservative attitudes.  I think United States citizens think of STI's way different then those living in Africa and Asia.  People here, I believe, frown upon STD's.  I also think people assume that heir partners don't have one.  I feel like it is a known and very serious issue but I think it is one that not really talked about among younger generations.  The media and more education of STI's are helping tremendously.
